All About Me

Hi my name is Ron Hoffman I started backpacking when I was 16 years old, but I have been camping for as long as I can remember. In 1976 I got a job as a wilderness guide for the American Wilderness Foundation. I worked for them over 20 years.

In that time I led backpacking, Canoeing, bike tours, Mountain climbing, Rock climbing, cave exploring (also known as spelunking), cross-country skiing tours, and taught class on wilderness survival. All of our tours were 7, 10, and 14 days long. I started out as a junior guide and worked my way up to chief guide responsible for developing, planing and implementing new wilderness adventures. I was also responsible for training all new
guides.

In more recent years I have started doing long distance backpacking (which is 500 miles or more) on the Pacific Crest Trail and plan on completing it this year. I have also done numerous multi-day Sea Kayaking trips in the Puget Sound and Columbia River to name a few.
